Our approach to creating real impact

The Problem

Despite rapid advances in health technology globally, Zambia and much of Sub-Saharan Africa face persistent health challenges due to underutilized innovations, limited local research, and gaps in translating evidence into policy and practice. This slows progress toward better health outcomes, leaving communities underserved and innovations untapped.

Our Response

HIRI’s strategy is to position health innovation and applied research at the center of health system strengthening in Zambia and Sub-Saharan Africa. We do this by generating high-quality, context-specific research, developing and testing practical health technologies, and ensuring that evidence is translated into policy and practice.

Through strong partnerships with government, universities, innovators, and communities, we bridge the gap between research and real-world implementation. By combining local experience with global expertise, HIRI works to scale effective solutions that improve health outcomes and advance progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 3.
